Description
  1. Understand the principles, and concepts relevant to the revised rule 138-A;
  2. Be familiarized with the salient features of the revised rule particularly on the eligibility requirements, certification process, practice areas, unauthorized practice and its corresponding sanctions, and the effectivity of the Rule;
  3. Determine the different stakeholders of the Rule and their respective duties and responsibilities
  4. Understand the process for certification as discussed in the Rule and in the OCA Circular

About the Speaker

Hon. Karla A. Funtila-Abugan
Presiding Judge Metropolitan Trial Court of Manila, Branch 17

Judge Karla A. Funtila-Abugan is currently the Presiding Judge of the Metropolitan Trial Court (MeTC) of Manila, Branch 17. She assumed office as presiding judge last October 2018. Prior to judgeship, she was the Judicial Staff head of then Associate Justice Lucas P. Bersamin but had worked in his office as Court Attorney since 2011. Judge Funtila-Abugan is also the Vice-Chairperson of the Supreme Court’s Committee on the Revised Law Student Practice Rule. She is presently taking her Masters of Law degree at the University of the Philippines.
